What is BookOnFlash?
BookOnFlash is a software service that enables the creation of electronic books (e-Books) on flash drives. With BookOnFlash we take an existing PDF file and convert it into an e-Book with page flip features. Once completed, the entire volume of files can be viewed as if reading a hard copy book. When the user ‘clicks’ on the corner of a page, the page ‘turns’ or flips to the next page. Additional features include a linked Table of Contents, content search, bookmarking and page specific note taking. Enjoy the familiarity of a hard copy book with the convenience of a searchable digital book, all on a small flash drive.

What features are included in BookOnFlash?

• Set up and conversion of a pdf document to a digital publication.
• Linked Table of Contents. Up to 25 links will be provided with each Table of Contents; these links will take you directly to the page you want to go to, no need to flip pages to get there.
• Search the complete contents of the e-Book by word or by title. Results are shown in a pop up screen that details each and every location the word or title can be found. A link will take you directly to those pages for viewing.
• Hosting of the converted e-Book document on the web.
• Unlimited zoom capacity. Increase or decrease the size of your viewable area.
• Bookmarking and note taking capabilities. Bookmark pages you want to view later and color coded tabs appear on the right (or left) side of the book. Add notes for yourself, or to share with others, by using the ‘sticky’ note feature on any page you desire.
• Thumbnails can be turned on or off and viewed at the bottom of the book.
• Vectored graphic text. Your text will appear as you typed it, regardless of whether or not the font is available on the computer you are viewing the e-Book on.
• Direct flip to the back and front covers from anywhere in the book.
• Print any or all of the pages from your e-Book.
• Download one or all of the pages to your computer.
• High quality imaging. Your pages will appear on screen crystal clear.

So how do I get started?
It’s easy… you will work together with your Pexagon Account Manager to complete the necessary steps required for digital content submission. Your Account Manager will provide you with detailed information pertaining to the type of files you will need to prepare as well as how you will send us the information.

All the pages you want to appear in your e-Book simply need to be submitted as a single pdf document. For example, if your catalog is 50 pages long, the 50 pages should appear in one pdf document that contains all the pages in their proper numerical order.

All the pages of each e-Book need to be the same size. For example, you can submit 50 pages in a 4”x6” format, or you can submit 50 pages in an 8.5”x11” format. But you may not combine the 4”x6” pages with the 8.5”x11” pages in one publication.

All the fonts in the pdf need to be embedded. Detailed directions for checking to see if fonts are embedded are included in the Instructions for Submission document.

Once your information is gathered, the pdf document will be uploaded to a Pexagon FTP site. Instructions for uploading the pdf file will also be provided with the Instructions for Submission document.

Once submitted, the turnaround will be quick (much shorter lead times than print media). In no time at all you’ll be viewing your e-book with pride.
